Born and raised in New York City, Gretchen's love affair with
jewelry began at the age
of six when she created earrings from construction paper and scotch tape.
Attending boarding school in New York as a teenager, Gretchen designed
earrings and
sold them to friends earning money to go into the city on weekends.
After graduation from Syracuse University, Gretchen
worked at Christie's Auction House for three years where she loved hanging out in the
jewelry department.
After moving to Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Gretchen launched Alter Designs selling
her jewelry to local boutiques (check out the
store locations).
Today, Gretchen's designs have been seen on the pages of CosmoGirl Magazine and
have graced women throughout the country.
Fans of Gretchen's creative designs includes Julia Roberts and
Sienne Miller...
Well they would certainly be fans had they ever seen Gretchen's work!
